Each meeting of the Grandview Garden Club features a special speaker on a topic relevant to Grandview gardeners. Bring your ideas, questions, gardening concerns. We meet about once a month. Club dues are $20 per calendar year or $4 to drop in. The club is an offshoot of Britannia Neighbours, the group that looks after the Napier Square Greenway at Britannia and that puts on the East Van Garden Tour every June.

PUSSY WILLOWS
Our speaker tomorrow evening will be bringing bunches of pussy willows for sale.
There will be the usual silver catkins, some with black catkins, and also some red-stemmed fasciated willows.
These make a beautiful spring bouquet and can also be easily coaxed into growing roots for an interesting container plant or addition to your garden.
Cost is $4-$6. Bring cash.
See you tomorrow at 7:00 pm for "On the Trail of Great Plant Picks" with Gwen Odermatt.

Garden Club Invite: Denman Island Home and Garden Tour June 15-16 (Featuring the Garden of Des Kennedy)
I'm not sure if anyone has taken this tour of Denman Island gardens but it sounds intriquing! For those not aware of where Denman is, you take a ferry from Horseshoe Bay in N. Vancouver over to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. From there you head up the Island about an hour to Fanny Bay where you catch the small ferry over to Denman Island. During your visit you can also take a ferry off Denman Island over to Hornby Island, another BC jewel also known as the Hawaii of BC due to its beautiful beaches such as Tribune Bay. There is lots of accommodation on both Islands as well as just north of Fanny Bay on the way to Courtenay/Comox. It's a wonderful area to visit!Hello,
I am hoping you can help us spread the word to your membership about this great event - an important fundraiser for the Denman Island Conservancy - protecting rare ecosystems on the island since 1991. We welcome garden clubs from all across BC - many choose to carpool or rent a charter bus for the event. Thank you for your consideration!
Denman Island Home and Garden Tour June 15-16, 2019
Tickets are now on sale for this enchanting Tour, deemed by the Globe & Mail "one of Canada's top six horticultural events." Every two years this idyllic island throws open its garden gates, inviting the pubic for a rare up-close look at the creativity, skill and passion Denman residents pour into their properties.
The Denman Conservancy has declared 2019 to be The Year of the Wetland, and many of our extraordinary properties offer natural and man-made water features, creating complex, lively ecosystems. The famous Des Kennedy Garden is a major attraction again this year, and other highlights include an organic vineyard (with tasting room), a home build from creatively recycled components, a modern homestead and market garden, a couple of oceanfront west-coast architectural delights, and an island-style chocolate factory. Bloom lovers will not be disappointed, either - roses, lilies, and a whole host of other blossoms will be found in abundance.
This weekend event provides an unforgettable experience for lovers of gardens, homes and rural charm. Many people return year after year, and are never disappointed. Join them! Come for a day trip, or book into a cozy B&B and stay for the weekend.
Early bird tickets are $18, and can be purchased online at http://www.denman-conservancy.org/home-and-garden-tour/.You can also find us (and Like us) on Facebook: www.facebook.com/DenmanIslandHomeAndGardenTour . Our March Meeting ... Thursday, March 14th, 2019, 7:00 p.m.
Our speaker for March is Gwen Odermatt, a member of the Great Plant Picks group, and she will talk to us about the GPP program and tell us how its committees go about selecting the "great plants" that make it onto their short list.
Gwen last spoke to us in September 2015 about her own magnificent garden in South Langley and the perennials she grows there.
You're sure to enjoy this meeting. As usual, we will meet in the "LRC" — the Learning Resources Centre, which is under the Britannia VPL library. As you're walking west toward the library, veer left on the walkway, walk alongside the library, and you'll come to a ramp entry to the LRC on your right. We start at 7:00 and end before 9:00.
