September 12th meeting — Botanus!

Hello!
Hope you're coming to the GGC meeting this Thursday, Sept 12th. Our speakers come from Botanus, a Langley-based bulb-order company. They have an extensive catalogue, both online and on paper. As well, they will be bringing some bulbs to sell — "at great prices"! Sales will be cash only — so bring some cash if you might be keen. Here's what they have to say about their presentation:

‘Fall’ in Love with Unusuals

Fall is the time of year to get in the garden and start planting all the classic bulbs you remember from your childhood…it’s also an exciting time to dig in and plant some very different offerings. These may be different and new to you, but we guarantee you will ‘fall’ in love with them in the spring.
At Botanus we love the classics but we also love the new and not so classic. With this presentation we want to encourage you to be daring and try something new this fall, something that will give you plenty to talk about next spring.
So join us for a fun-filled evening as we introduce you to the history of, and interesting information about, unusual bulbs. These are the kind that you plant in the fall, get to love all spring long, and actually enjoy for years to come in your garden!

The Grandview Garden Club meets in the "LRC" — the Learning Resources Centre, which is under the Britannia VPL library. As you're walking west toward the library, veer left on the walkway, walk alongside the library, and you'll come to a ramp entry to the LRC on your right. We start at 7:00 and end before 9:00.

We always have tea and goodies and a few door prizes. Try to remember to bring your own teacup. See you there!

Meeting May 9th — "Rain Gardens"

"A rain garden is any landscaping that filters and absorbs stormwater (rainwater) runoff from a nearby impervious surface such as a roof, driveway, parking lot, or street."

Deborah Jones from Cougar Creek Streamkeepers in North Delta/Surrey will be our speaker for May. She will show us how she and her group have inspired residents to improve their gardens by channeling run-off from their roofs, and how they have involved Delta Council and local schoolchildren in turning unused strips of public land into thriving habitats for plants and wildlife.

As usual, we will meet in the "LRC" — the Learning Resources Centre, which is under the Britannia VPL library. As you're walking west toward the library, veer left, walk alongside the library, and you'll come to a ramp entry to the LRC on your right. We start at 7:00 and end before 9:00.Bring your gardening questions and concerns ... and your ideas for topics or speakers for upcoming meetings. We always have tea and goodies and a few door prizes. Please bring your own tea cup!!
